SEO: All About Authenticity

SEO marketers are constantly updating their repertoire to cater for the ever-changing algorithms of search engines. Many industry professionals liken the SEO industry to both an art and a science, observed and studied to achieve that high ‘Pagerank’.

Something SEO marketers are not aware of, though, is that Google’s algorithm is so advanced that it actually endorses “Anti-Perfection”. In other words, the algorithm looks to exclude marketers attempting to beat the algorithm with “over-engineered perfection” (Forbes).

Why?

Google, in short, seeks to provide information to users that is relevant and reliable, providing the solution to a searcher’s problem. Without an organic experience, searchers will eventually search elsewhere.

It’s clear that searchers crave an ‘Organic Search’ experience. Here you can see the ‘Click Through Rates’ for Organic Google results vs. Paid Google results on mobile and desktop.

Backlinks: A Balance

Marketers commonly aim for only high-quality backlinks, but the truth is, Google sees this as suspicious! What sort of website only produces high-quality links? Google can sense the falsity and over-engineering of these actions, and a site will be penalised accordingly.

The solution?

Act natural! Produce an organic set of backlinks to your website that reflect the activity of a normal, non-scheming person. Some average links, some high-quality – but always stay away from those manipulative, toxic links.

Marketers need stop trying to beat the Search Engine algorithms, and start providing optimal value for their target audience!

What are some of the other ways marketers can increase their ‘Pagerank’ in Organic Search?

  1. I like the idea of Pageranks being authentic as appose to being manipulated. I also believe that a great way to achieve this is by always having relevant, up to date content on your page. Thanks for the great read!

  8. Great point Indiana! Instead of quantity (or in this case rank) why not quality!? Couldn’t agree more that as marketers we should let the content speak for itself. Can be made difficult though when theres so much competition and only one platform (so to speak) to have your voice heard…

    1. A great point, Dimity! In such a competitive environment sometimes businesses have no choice but to try to increase their page rank. So long as this is done organically, I believe a search engine’s algorithm will recognise and reward this.

  9. I think more businesses could take the opportunity to link a blog to their website and make a real effort to maintain it with valuable content to its readers. I think there’s a huge misunderstanding on blogs and they unfairly have been deemed to be old news and irrelevant but can be a great way to increase your SEO!

    1. Some great tips! Blogs are often disregarded as old methods of communicating online, but their organic SEO benefits are awesome! I would highly suggest a business link to a blog and publish 2-4 posts a week.
